This bead carries a medicine dig on one end — a small rounded deposit adhered to the surface near the drill hole, visible in images 4 and 6. Medicine digs are a well-documented feature of old Tibetan dzi beads: small quantities of dried medicinal or ritual substances applied directly to the bead surface and left in place, a practice tied to the bead's use as a healing and protective object within traditional Tibetan medicine. The deposit on this bead is intact, convex, and warm honey-brown in tone — distinct from the bead's own surface and clearly identifiable in the macro photograph. It is disclosed here in full.

The nine eyes are arranged in a stacked two-row layout across each face, with S-curve cream lines connecting the columns between them — the same structure as the companion piece in this series. The ground is very deep dark brown agate, consistent through the full length of the barrel. The cream motif lines on this bead read slightly brighter than those of the companion piece — a cooler, higher-contrast cream against the deeper ground, giving the nine eyes a particularly sharp presence.

Both faces carry the same eye arrangement and connector structure. The motif is intact across all faces with no erosion or line loss. The ground shows the settled surface character of a bead in this age range — smooth, with fine surface pitting visible at macro scale, and no structural compromise. Both drill holes are small and clean. No cracks are present anywhere on the bead. I independently confirm both.

The Nine Eye Motif

The nine eye dzi (九眼天珠) is regarded in Tibetan Buddhist tradition as the most powerful of all dzi bead motifs. Nine eyes correspond to the nine-fold path to enlightenment and to the nine planets of classical Tibetan cosmology, and a bead carrying this count is understood to attract the blessings of all nine simultaneously — drawing in wealth, extending protection, and eliminating obstacles across every domain of life. The nine-eye bead has long been the most sought-after count among collectors and practitioners across Tibet, China, and Asia, and is particularly associated with the drawing in of fortune and abundance in commerce and business.
