This bead is black from one end to the other — and the cream that cuts through it is broad enough to hold its own.

This antique Tibetan three-eye dzi presents the highest contrast of any piece in the antique three-eye group offered this season. The ground is a uniform deep black that runs without variation from drill end to drill end — no warming at the caps, no colour shift, no zone structure. Against that ground, the cream zones are wide and clearly resolved: the single eye on face A sits within a generous hexagonal cream surround that takes up the full width of the face; the two eyes on face B present as a close-set pair, each with a broad cream iris, their rings nearly touching at the centre line. The black ground frames rather than dominates — this bead reads as cream-prominent rather than dark-prominent.

The 90-degree turn faces provide two further distinct views: broad chevron-arc cream lines sweeping across a dark field, the eye compositions fully absent at these angles. The four rotational views present genuinely different compositions — the paired eyes, the single centred eye, and two arc-pattern faces — each one a complete visual statement in its own right.

At 50.7mm this is a mid-length antique three-eye barrel with a well-proportioned fusiform profile, slightly more compact than the 50.8mm At-090326-3E4. The surface carries a smooth aged patina consistent with its estimated 200–400 years. Fine surface texture is visible across the cream zones under close inspection, consistent with aged etching on agate. No cracks are present; confirmed independently from photos.

The Three Eye Motif

The three-eye dzi is one of the most significant motifs in the Tibetan bead tradition, associated with the wealth deity Kubera and with the three streams of prosperity — material abundance, spiritual merit, and the fulfilment of wishes. The three eyes are understood to open the wearer to opportunity across all three realms of existence. Carried for centuries by Tibetan traders, nobles, and practitioners as a talisman of fortune and protection, the three-eye dzi remains among the most sought-after of all dzi motifs and one of the most immediately recognisable.
