Where most dzi read warm, this one reads cool — a grey-brown ground that gives the six eyes a quiet, understated presence.

This new six-eye dzi is cut from a distinctly cool-toned agate — dark brown with a grey inflection that runs consistently through the whole body, from the central barrel to both drill ends. The six eyes are distributed evenly around the bead, two per face across three rotational positions, each one a concentric ring construction with a small dark pupil and a narrow grey-cream iris. The iris rings are muted rather than bright — they read as cool grey-cream against the cool grey-brown ground, a tonal relationship that gives the bead a restrained, even-handed character quite different from the high-contrast black-and-cream pieces in this session's group.

At 58.6mm this is a full-length new dzi barrel with a pronounced fusiform profile — the body tapers more sharply toward both ends than the flatter antique fusiform pieces, giving it a more elongated, pointed silhouette. The six eyes are evenly spaced and well-resolved, each ring clearly defined against the ground, the separator bars between zones reading as consistent vertical lines along the barrel's length. Turn the bead to any position and two eyes face outward, the composition repeating evenly around the circumference.

The surface has a smooth matte finish — not the gloss of the antique pieces, but a settled, even texture appropriate to a newly crafted piece. A minor surface texture is visible around the drill hole opening at one end, noted for full disclosure. No cracks are present; confirmed independently from photos. The ground colour holds the same cool grey-brown from end to end — no zone shift, no warming at the caps — giving the bead a unified, consistent character across all five unretouched images.

The six-eye dzi carries a symbolic association with the six realms of existence in Buddhist cosmology, and with the protective oversight of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. Six eyes open the wearer to awareness and protection across all planes of existence, and the motif is traditionally worn as a talisman of far-reaching protection and compassionate guidance. The six-eye dzi is among the most widely recognised and valued of all dzi motifs, combining strong visual presence with deep symbolic resonance.
